"Eat Like a Local" Food & Drink COMBOS

Hello Everyone:)
I am staff Harriet from Leo Guesthouse!!

One of the questions I get the most is
"What food goes well with Soju?"
"What food goes well with Makgeoli?"

So today I am going to tell you some perfect food+drink Combos!

1. Soju + ???

Korean people's favorite alcohol, Soju!!
It's quite similar to a vodka but with less alcohol. Only 17-18%!!
So it's much easier to drink than vodkas.

What do Korean people usually eat with Soju?!

Definitely BBQ is the most common food with Soju.
Pork bbq, beef bbq, any kinds of bbq!!
This is my favorite combo. Pork BBQ with Soju!!!

This food is called 'Kimchi Jjigae'.
It's basically a soup made of Kimchi and other vegetables.
Sometimes we put pork in the soup.
Most of the spicy soups go well with Soju!
Soup is the cheapest food you can get in the restaurant.
I usually order soup and soju when I don't have enough money.

2. Beer + ???

I don't usually drink beer in Korea because I don't really like Korean beers.
It is too light for me.
So I usually mix the beer CASS with Soju.
Or just get the foreign beers.
Beer in Korean is 'Maekju'.

What do Korean people eat with Maekju?!

Definitely FRIED CHICKEN!!!!!!!
Korean people love fried chicken with beer.
We even have a word for chicken+beer.
It's called 'Chi-Maek'. (Beer is Maekju.)
"Let's go chi-maek."
It's my favorite sentence to say. lol
If you visit Korea, you will see a lot and a lot of chicken restaurants.
We can even deliver fried chicken everywhere!
My favorite place to have chi-maek is the han-river park.

And Pizza!
It's not a Korean Combo but I still like it.
We call it 'Pi-maek'! You would've guessed for sure.

3. Makgeoli + ???

'Makgeoli' is a traditional Korean wine made of rice.

What do Koreans eat with Makgeoli?!

These are called 'Jeon'.
It's a traditional Korean pancake.
The first one is 'Kimchi-jeon' which is made of Kimchi.
The second one is 'Pa-jeon' which is made of spring onion.

When Koreans think of Makgeoli, we definitely think of Jeons.
And when we think of Jeons, we definitely think of Makgeoli.

We usually drink Makgeoli and eat Jeons in rainy days.
It is interesting to note that the sound of sizzling jeons
can be easily compared to the pounding of rain.
Because of this it's common for Koreans to crave jeons
while taking shelter from the skies.

So now you know what to eat with the drinks in Korea!!
Have a nice day everyone!:)
